Chatsworth, Georgia was a town built by the railroad. The Louisville and Nashville Railroad moved the mainline west of the lower Appalachian Mountains in 1905. The wooden combination freight and passenger depot was built along the tracks that year. The Whitfield-Murray Historical Society obtained possession of the depot in 1988 and moved it off the right of way in 1989. The passenger waiting room has been turned into a talc museum (the number one export from the depot) and railroad artifacts fill the station agents office and freight room. A G-Gauge and HO-Scale model railroad both operate in the freight room. A 1960 SCL caboose sit on a short display track behind the depot. The depot is located at 2-9 N. First Avenue in downtown Chatsworth. You may call 706-581-5482 for more information.
